YOUR EVENT GUIDE TO THE SIX INVITATIONAL 2021 – MAY EDITION

April 27, 2021

Since the delay of the Six Invitational earlier this year, our teams have been hard at work evaluating all possible options for the “May Edition” of the Six Invitational 2021. We are happy to announce that we have been authorized by the government and the local authorities to hold the Six Invitational 2021 in Paris, France, from May 11th to 23rd, with no audience on-site and following strict sanitary measures.

Find out more about the Six Invitational 2021 below.

an update on the participating teams

We are happy to confirm that we have received the authorization from the French government for all 6 Brazilian teams qualified to the Six Invitational to enter France to join the event, following strict safety regulations, which include providing a negative PCR test dating from less than 36 hours before the flight, an antigenic test upon arrival in France, and a strict 10-day quarantine period.

The crown jewel of the Rainbow Six Siege competitive year is right around the corner and we’re happy to confirm that with the Brazilian teams able to join us, we will enjoy a long-awaited clash of the regions that will determine Season 2020’s World Champions.

Since the delay of the competition, we have worked towards gathering all 20 qualified teams to compete and we also had strong hopes that the delay of the event to May would allow Wildcard Gaming to participate.

Unfortunately, despite our joint efforts with the organization and due to a conjunction of factors impacting their Six Invitational roster’s ability to participate, Wildcard Gaming will not compete at the event. We are deeply saddened once more by the fact that Wildcard Gaming will not be joining us. We hope to see them soon in one of our cross-regional competitions. The team will receive 1% of the total prize pool, corresponding to a 19th to 20th ranking in the competition.

Roster changes: as a reminder, following the delay of the Six Invitational 2021 to May, we authorized all organizations qualified (through the Global Standings or open qualifiers) to the Six Invitational 2021 to transfer players during the 2021 off-season Transfer Window in accordance with the rules established in the Global Rulebook. If an organization qualified to the Six Invitational 2021 decided to release one of their players, or to transfer a player to an organization that won't be competing at the Six Invitational in May, then said organization must compensate the player that helped them qualify, with a portion of the prize money the team will earn during the Six Invitational.

basics

location

To comply with the health and safety regulations, the Six Invitational 2021 will not host any audience on-site. - Group Stage: players’ hotel, behind closed doors - Playoffs: at the Palais Brongniart, a historical venue at the very heart of Paris.

dates

  • May 11th to May 16th: Group Stage. To comply with the guidelines of the health organizations and local authorities, this phase will be broadcast from the players’ hotel.
  • May 19th to May 23rd: Playoffs.

health & safety

The Six Invitational 2021 will gather 19 teams coming from the 4 main regions of the Rainbow Six Esports circuit, competing in a LAN environment, in France. The health and wellbeing of our pro players, staff, partners and fans is our top priority, this is why the event will be held without any live audience and under strict sanitary safety measures for all its participants. For the past months, we have been working with our partner Live Nation, the Health and Safety Agency ACEPS, the medical assistance agency ISMA and the French Government, in order to develop a controlled, safe and competitive offline environment in line with the guidelines of the health organizations and local authorities. Below are the different actions that will be taken to ensure everyone’s safety. We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver gold-standard safety measures.

Health and safety measures may be updated up until the event, based on the evolution of the local authorities' guidelines.

Before the event:

  • A minimum of 7 days of self-isolation highly recommended for all players before departure.
  • For Brazilian teams: a negative PCR test to provide in order to be allowed by the authorities to fly to France – maximum 36 hours before departure.
  • For all, to the exception of Brazilian teams (see above): a negative PCR test to provide in order to be allowed by authorities to fly to France – maximum 72 hours before departure.
  • In accordance with French regulation, during the 14 days prior to their flight to France for the event, players coming from the European Union, Australia, South Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom and Singapore, must not travel to the USA, Canada and Brazil.
During the event:

Players Guidelines
- A maximum of 6 people per team authorized to come to the offline event. - For Brazilian players: antigenic test completed upon arrival at the French airport. - Upon arrival and depending on the territory of origin, self-isolation at the hotel for all players for a duration based on the latest local authorities' guidelines. - All players will have individual hotel rooms. - Strict separation between teams. Players from one team will not mix with other teams during the event. - Regular PCR and antigenic testing for all players during the event. - PCR test before the departure flight. - Strict departure rule: in order to limit as much as possible the number of people in the venue, all eliminated teams will exit the event upon their elimination and will leave France within the following 48 hours. - Masks: players will wear masks at all times, except when playing on stage and during interviews.

Sites Guidelines
- Restrictions are applied to limit the number of people on site at any given moment. - All equipment within the venue will be rigorously sanitized daily at the beginning and end of each day. - Additionally, the competition areas will be sanitized before and after each match. - Sanitation of interview equipment and area before and after each interview session. - Frequent sanitation of all high-touch surfaces. - Presence of a Covid Manager on site for the entire duration of the event. - A doctor will be present on site for the entire duration of the event, including during the pre-event self-isolation period. - Permanent presence of first-aid workers trained in COVID management. - Presence of thermal imaging camera at site entrance.

Protocols for all people working on-site
- Two documents will be made available to each: - General instructions reminding the national instructions and official recommendations. - Specific instructions adapted to each site and to the competition schedule. - Face masks will be required at all times. - Social distancing. - Set up of a sign-off sheet of "Acknowledgement of the General and Specific Instructions for any person who accesses the venue".

Specific scenarios and actions:
  • If a player tests positive for COVID-19 before travelling to France, the designated coach can replace the player as a substitute for the competition.
  • If 2 or more players test positive before travelling to France, the full team will be removed from the competition.
  • If the coach tests positive before the event, he won’t be replaced during the event.
  • Participating teams will face competitive sanctions, up to dismissal from the site and disqualification entirely from the competition, should they fail to comply with the safety instructions at any moment during the event.
  • Once in France, if a player tests positive after any of the required PCR tests, the full team will be removed or disqualified from the competition. We’re convinced this additional reinforcement of our sanitary measures is essential to ensure the safety of the other teams and our staff. In that scenario, the disqualified team would be provided the necessary support to ensure they are repatriated in optimal safety conditions for them and the general public.
  • If a player from Brazil tests positive through the antigenic test conducted at their arrival in France, a PCR test will be done to confirm the result. If this PCR test comes back positive, then the full team will be removed from the competition. Ubisoft will provide the necessary support to the team to help them go through the local procedures and requirements, including the 10-day quarantine period.

competitive format

Due to the global pandemic, this year’s Six Invitational will be the first Rainbow Six Siege cross-regional competition since the Six Invitational 2020. We are eager to see how the different regions have evolved over the past year and how they measure up against one another on stage. The Six Invitational 2021 will gather 19 teams and its format has been updated since the previous edition to increase the number of matches and have the most accurate seeding before kicking-off the Playoffs.

All teams will start competing in the Group Stage where they will be dispatched into 2 groups. In total, 81 matches will be played between the four regions throughout the Group Stage.

At the end of the Group Stage, the 8 best teams from each group will qualify for the Playoffs. More details below:

group stage (may 11 - 16)

Initially, The Six Invitational 2021 was a 20-team competition. The teams were dispatched in 2 groups of 10 teams as follows:

  • The top 4 teams of the Global Standings (BDS, Cloud9, TSM, Giants Gaming) were cross-seeded in Group A & B
  • Based on the Global standings as well, a random draw was made in this specific order to dispatch the 16 other teams in Group A and B:
    • Top 5-8
    • Top 8-16
    • 4 qualifiers

SI2021 Groupstage Pool 960x540

Each team in Group A will play 9 games and each team in Group B – composed of one team less – will play 8 games. The 8 best teams of each group, 16 teams in total, will advance to the playoffs, while the 2 bottom teams of Group A and the bottom team of Group B will be eliminated. Given the large number of matches and the number of teams advancing to the Playoffs, the Group Stage will consist of a Best-of-one single round robin.

playoffs (may 19 - 23)

This phase will consist of a double elimination bracket. All Playoffs matches will be played in best-of-three. Following the Group Stage, the top 4 teams of Group A and B will battle it out in the upper bracket, while the teams ranked between the 5th and 8th positions in each group will fall into the lower bracket. The Grand Final will consist of a best-of-five match with a map advantage to the upper bracket team and unlimited overtime.
